If you’re going to be in Japan for a long business trip, it’s probably not as cost effective to get a NEW phone with a new plan all together, which is why i think the services offered b by Japan Handy Phone (JHP) is a pretty good one. You can rent your own cellphone with a suitable while you stay in Japan so you will always be connected to your business, family and friends.
Their rates goes according to the different plans you pick and the amount of time you need the phone for. So prices range from 3000Yen to 21,000 Yen. Just pick.
Nokia’s luxury brand, Vertu, is said to be heading for Japan shores in late 2008. From the looks of it, the vertu I mean, it looks pretty sleek to attract the Japanese prospects. Of course, cellphones are dependable gadgets by most Japanese - whether it’s to know of the weather, the stock market, the traffic news, or acting as a mobile wallet, Vertu has to live up to that.
Since the sleek design of Vertu includes a diamond on its body, it is without a doubt (in my opinion) that it will definitely appeal to the younger generations. I am sure you heard how well the phones with Austrian crystals (via SOftbank) did. Diamond? It’s every person’s best friend in this case.
The summer collection of phones by au KDDI is pretty unique in all its sense as in each individual phones are different from one another. In all there are 10 phones out in their summer collection and they range from pink to orange in color as well as designs. The color themes doesn’t just ends there too, as each phones have their own color schemes as well. I think my favorite phone of the 10 is the first one, W53SA. :) The reason why is because I love it’s design. It looks like a pillow :)
Looks like DoCoMo is expanding its organization by investing in a digital mapping firm. It is said that the investment costs USD3.28million for a 10.27% stake in digital mapping and location identification services company Zenrin DataCom Co Ltd, a unit of Zenrin Co Ltd. I guess DoCoMo is going to probably include a sector for auto-mapping in cars - sort of like a GPS system in the future maybe? I guess, more news will come when the transaction’s completed.
The deal that NTT DoCoMo and Hutch Essar signed last December on the i-Mode licensing in India has been given the boot. Apparently it is due to the change of environment in both companies so both parties have come to a conclusion that it wasn’t time yet it seems.
NTT DoCoMo and Hutch Essar Not to Proceed With i-mode Contract
Tokyo, Japan, May 7, 2007 - (JCN Newswire) - NTT DoCoMo, Inc. announced that the company and Indian mobile operator Hutchison Essar Ltd. (”Hutch”) have agreed not to proceed with the contract signed on December 15, 2006 regarding the licensing of the i-mode(TM) mobile Internet service in India.
DoCoMo and Hutch had been striving to launch i-mode service in India within 2007. Due to the changes in business environment, both companies concluded that it would be difficult to launch i-mode service at this time and agreed not to proceed.
*i-mode and FOMA(TM) are trademarks or registered trademarks of NTT DoCoMo, Inc. in Japan and other countries.
Imagine what it would have done to India’s economy.
Japanese government is set to create a high tech wireless zone next year in one of its islands. The wireless sensors will allow activities such as:-
# allowing doctors to remotely monitor the health of the elderly
# alerting motorists to nearby pedestrians
# enabling vegetables carrying IC tags to send information such as where they were grown to shoppers’ mobile phones
This is made possible by the corporation between the Japanese government, telco companies, electronic manufacturers as well as other related companies. It’s definitely a big job that requires the expertise in many fields. I think this is a big giant step for humanity and technology.
Is it wishful thinking to hope for such things to occur in all countries? *Crosses fingers*
Symbian Ltd. announced their 20 millionth handset sales in an announcement earlier last week. The Symbian OS Smartphones have been doing particularly well in Japan as the growth was driven by remarkable innovation that the OS is because of it ability to reduce time-to-market and meeting the requirements of handset vendors and network operators. In a nutshell, it’s an excellent gadget that has been found useful by the majority of Japanese.
Now after the announcement Symbian announce another ad to bash European and American mobile markets in their BooHooForYou commercial. I personally think it’s funny as hell as the Pizza chains have been doing this tactic for the longest time against each other, but in the Japanese culture this is viewed as extremely rude. According to Wireless Watch Japan:
Anyone who understands how Japan’s business and wider civil culture operates will tell you that remaining humble - especially when you otherwise have strong reason to brag loudly in public - is not only expected and practiced, but to do the opposite is highly insulting. Thus Symbian’s BHFY comes across as at least culturally inappropriate and at worst directly insulting.
Whoops Symbian, I don’t think this culture appreciates your humor. You should just stick to the whole conservative touch of your Chairman shaking hands with the relevent folks. Smile. Bow. And. Continue. Your. Excellent. Work. Deal.
Who says camera’s can’t be part of the wireless community? The new Sony’s DSC-G1 has 2 Gb of internal memory, that means you can take thousands of pictures and some videos along and have it transferred to your laptop or desktop at a push of a Wi-Fi button. This is definitely a breakthrough as anything that doesn’t require any wires are, really.
The camera isn’t the best around because of it’s bulkiness and mini 3x optical zoom but it’s definitely an introduction to the market that cameras too can be part of the wireless community.
This baby does not look crass at all even though it has a shimmer. In fact, it looks quite elegant and classic. It is the latest addition from Sony Ericsson, the S500. It comes in two colors actually, mysterious green and Spring Yellow that looks almost gold :) This is a slider phone, which scores brownie points with me because i like slider phones. They’re very efficient.
The Sony Ericsson S500 hasn’t hit the market yet so no words on pricing yet but it will hit the market in the 3rd quarter of this year. So brace yourself for it when it comes out. Then again, Sony Ericsson might be revealing new phones along the way till then.
