Docomo Teams up with McDonalds

mcdocomo.jpg

These two unrelated giants have seemingly come together. It’s old news but it’s still interesting anyway. They’re not making a phone together, thank god. Imagine Ronald McDonald shuffling about with his big red shoe holding a red and yellow striped phone with a big M on the back?

Beastly.

The agreement between the two is for the promotion of Docomo’s IC card cash system in McDonald’s restaurant.

World’s Thinnest Waterproof Phone

fujitsu.JPG

yea you OCDs out there can wash these

Fujitsu has launched what it seems to be like the world’s first thinnest waterproof phone. The F703i is unfortunately not going to leave the Japanese shores so too bad world! The phone is 17.9mm thick and can be submerged into water for about 30 minutes. I wonder why the timeframe…since it’s waterproof it should be able to stay in water for an unsurmountable time. But anyway, it also boast the feature of being able to go down to 1 metre deep without much casualties.

The only question right now is, if they created the world’s thinnest waterproof phone, how come they didn’t create the world’s first water-friendly phone that allows callers to talk underwater? I mean what good is a waterproof phone if the user cannot make phonecalls underwater, eh?

bling bling casing

The F703i also comes in a shiny casing with 2.2inch screen and 1.3megapixel camera. No word about whether it plays music or not.

The mythical G-Phone

G as in Google Phone….yes. Everybody is out to compete with the iPhone these days. It’s no secret. I wrote about the LG Prada phone on Gadgets and felt like maybe I should have included it here on Wireless. But nah..that LG Prada phone is more of like an accessory than anything because it’s 1) it’s Prada 2) it’s not as well facilitated as the iPhone.

gphone.jpg

Mythical G Phone?

But this G-Phone my friends….if it’s true that its ever coming out…..is about the same par as the iPhone. It will have Qwerty ..it will have the large touch screen (of course!)… it will have 2D engine that will give out high quality photos in low powered devices (ooh la la)…it’s going to be a lot of things IF the phone is out of Myth-ville. As for now, the peeps at Google are keeping extremely quiet because they want us to create the buzz ourselves! What i just disclosed to you..is tipped by some unknown source that’s from within Google itself….I don’t know how true it is…it’s suppose to be a myth!

BUT, there have been claims that a number of people have HELD the device. Again, we don’t know how true. It’s a myth.

Read more about it HERE.

Sony Ericsson’s K810 and K550 Cybershot

k810i_front_golden_ivory_k550_440pxl.jpg

And now they even have 3.2 Megapixels camera phones. Why do we even need a camera anymore when we can use a gadget to communicate and to extricate visually pleasing memories? Sony Ericsson’s new Cybershot phones are now offering 3.2 megapixels and 2.0 megapixels camera phone, K810 and K550, respectively.

The feature rich 17-mm K810 boasts an image stabilized 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus and Xenon flash. The K550 packs just a good shootin’ 2.0 megapixel cam and LED photo light but does so in a 14-mm form factor. Both devices bring an RM radio with RDS and support for Memory Stick Mico (M2) cards

Both phone will be out in the second quarter of 2007, meaning this year! Personally, I can’t keep up with the changes that phones keep evolving to. Soon, we’ll have a phone that prints those cutesy Japanese sticker pictures. Now that would rock, especially in the Asian countries. I know it’s big where I come from. Okay, i am copyrighting that idea! If anyone wants to build a phone with a printer that prints cutesy sticker pictures, they’d have to come through me!!

Anyway, till then, content yourself with these new Cybershots.

Blackberry goodness in Japan!

blackberry_7250_handset_lg.gif

BlackBerry 7250

I love BlackBerry smart phones - thing is, they’re not just phones, it’s a phone-organizer-email device-web browser all in one. It’s like the PDA but way better. You can’t readily find them in Asia, but they have stomped over Europe, US and Canada (its country of origin) and are selling very, very well especially to people who depends on mobile/web communication who is on the go.

It’s therefore, great news that DoCoMo, Japan’s largest telecommunication operator, has brought the BlackBerry into the Far East. They are partnering BlackBerry to bring consumers a GSM / WCMDA “worldphone” versions of the addictive handhelds. And the agreement was set in stone last Autumn in 2006. Read more about the partnership here and here.
It’s undeniable that BlackBerries smart phones will definitely be larger than the usual Japanese phones (not to mention slightly heavier), some questions have arised regarding its sellability in Japan. In my opinion as a meddler of BlackBerry (for a few hours), I think it’ll be just fine - It will sell in Japan, especially when it’s comparatively small to have a phone, a web mail device, an organizer all into one and being the tech savvy people that most Japanese people are, they will most probably fall for the Blackberry’s usability and style.

It’s latest BlackBerry Pearl is sleek and professional (and the smallest Smart Phone in the world). It’s most useful for executives on the move and what’s more, the fact that Blackberry Pearl is the smallest SmartPhone would appeal to the Japanese crowd almost instantly.

I guess a lot will still remain to be seen with time since the deal between DoCoMo and Blackberry was just quite recent. I would be curious to know how the BlackBerry is going to pack thousands of keys necessary to represent all those Japanese glyphs on their interface.

The Ultimate Kids Keitai

Continuing my now two-post long thread of Ultimate Keitai aimed at particular demographics, I now present to you the ultimate Kids Keitai! The newly renamed Softbank Mobile has released the ‘Kodomobile’ which has been especially designed for children.

Image from TOKYOMANGO

The phone features a GPS tracking system so that parents can check the location of their kids on a computer at any time, a panic alarm, and a warning light that will automatically send an email with the time and current location when activated. There’s also web access to things like Yahoo! Kids (remember, Softbank and Yahoo! are in cahoots), some games, 1GB of memory, a high resolution camera and a battery that can last for up to 20 days.

Good lord, I want one. I want a phone with 20 days of battery power and 1 gig of memory! Why can’t my phone have all that?!

The Ultimate Female Keitai

Mobile phones, or keitai, are obviously a big fashion accessory in Japan. One of the best selling phones of the last year, the au KDDI Neon was perhaps a bit under-developed in the amazing-only-in-Japan-technological-features department. But it was, quite frankly, beautiful, which is why it sold out.

Now Mitsubishi (through DoCoMo) have released the FOMA D702iF which is meant to have everything that a woman could want from her keitai. The feminine pastel colours complements the skin on the hand, while a special alarm keeps track of the female monthly cycle.

Yes, you read that correctly.

There’s also the special design, which includes soft and smooth contours and a small shape to avoid chipping fingernails. The small, palm-size and marquee cut is also meant to enhance to look of a woman’s hands.

The phone was designed by renown fashion designer Momoko Ikuta. They are available in Coral Coral, Green Air, White Sand and Lilac Mirage.

I really should have learnt by now never to be shocked by the phones available in Japan.
