DoCoMo announces 8 hour FOMA talk time!
With ever increasing battery requirements, including video calls, gaming, music and everything else that comes with a Foma handset – someone had to do it!
DoCoMo improved the capacity by increasing the methanol concentration from 30% to over 99% and developing a method of recycling the generated water. DoCoMo unveiled a prototype micro fuel cell using methanol as an inexpensive source of fuel last September to meet user demands for more convenient handsets with greater power capacity and reduced environmental impact.

The press release also mentions that the prototype enables upto 8 hours of talk time, and more than 3 times the existing standby.
Although many wouldnt like the thought of carrying this thing around with them, on a long trip where you know you’re not going to be able to recharge quicky it might be good to stick in the backpack.

That DoCoMo claim that this keitai employs, “a method of recycling the generated water” is most likely lost-in-translation. It is a “closed that retains the water generated’ so the cellphone doesn’t pee in you pocket during ’standby”.
Acccording to spec’s, the fuel cell coverts methanol and oxygen to carbon dioxide and water. The water is then retained in the fuel cell and it’s NOT recycled.
